A few tips from URSULA a Skin Care Therapist

"THE SKIN - PROTECTIVE FLEXIBLE MEMBRANE, Important part of the immune system."

WHAT IS SKIN ECOLOGY?

Much of what has been learned about skin and skin care, points to the environment. Just as plants and animals are influenced by their surroundings, your skin is affected by diet, exercise, stress, genetics, hormones, exposure to sun, skincare products, cleansing regimen and over all skin care.

SKIN AND WHY IT NEEDS CARE?

The skin is made up of two layers the Epidermis and the Dermis. The Epidermis is the outside layer which controls the loss of water from cells and tissues. Without this barrier, the body would quickly dehydrate. The Dermis is a thicker layer found just below the Epidermis. It contains blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, collagen and elastin.

The collagen and elastin fibers are the main supportive tissues of the skin. They provide structure and flexibility. Among the collagen fibers, there is also water to bathe and lubricate the supportive network.

Skin is constantly renewing itself. New cells are growing from the bottom of the Dermis to the surface of the Epidermis. However, with age or overexposure to UV rays, this process slows down. The skin loses its elasticity, the collagen fibers become weakened and water is gradually expelled from the Dermis. The result is dry, flaky skin, fine line and an increase formation of wrinkles.

DO I REALLY NEED A FACIAL?

A facial is a treatment intended to improve the appearance of facial skin with a combination of a relaxing massage, deep pores cleansing, hydrating, steaming, extraction of impurities (blackheads and whiteheads), exfoliating dead cells from the epidermis, as well as application of vitamins, serums, toners and soothing masks. CARING FOR THE FACE, one of the most exposed areas of the skin, truly is one of life's rewards and part of your total well-being.

Monthly facials are a must in keeping your epidermis free of dead cells and impurities, retain a fresh natural glow, moisture factor and correct the PH balance. Unique botanical formulas with raw herbal materials and vitamins are the best preventative treatment that everyone's skin will benefit from.

SEASONAL CHANGES

The heat and humidity of summer can cause oily skin to become more oily, and dry skin more dry, than usual. Air pollution presents higher hazard during hot months, depositing a variety of damaging chemicals on the skin. The key to maintaining a healthy complexion is to adjust your skin-care regimen to climatic conditions, your individual needs and life style.

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT ACNE TREATMENT

Acne is the most common of all skin problem. Almost everyone will experience it as a teenager. However, this troublesome condition, even if not experienced as a teenager, can occur as an adult. Long before blemishes appear on your skin, trouble has begin beneath the surface - in the hair follicles and their attached oil glands. Acne is caused by the formation of plugs of dry skin, debris, bacteria and oil in the follicles, thus forming a comedone. If the pore is open, it is a "blackhead" denoted by its black color. It is called a "whitehead" if the pore is closed. Oil trapped under the skin surface invaded by bacteria, causes irritation and that is precursor of a pimple. Since external dirt is not what clogs the pores, hard scrubbing, constant washing with harsh soaps and hot water will not help with the condition. In fact, by irritating the skin and stimulating the oil glands, the opposite occurs. Acne can be triggered by certain types of medications including some birth-control pills, stress, emotional extremes, hormonal imbalance, poor diet and lack of sleep.

Severe acne can not be cured, but in most cases can be successfully controlled. There is no single treatment that works for everyone. In general we have to make sure that dead cells and oil can flow smoothly out of the follicle. One of the first and foremost essential steps in preventing breakouts is keeping follicles free of oil deposits. It can be done with professional deep pore cleansing, extraction of impurities and healing masks, followed by high frequency or galvanic treatment. Monthly professional facials, coupled with a personalized homecare routine, are very important. Keeping notes of all skin and make-up products used, which may irritate your skin, can be an important key. Simply eliminating or changing incorrect products can be start of a beautiful, blemish free complection we all desire.

After facials with extractions or waxing procedures, you must use a sunscreen of SPF 30 for at least three days to avoid hyper-pigmentation on the treated area.
